Happy Holidays to you from Childcare Marketing Solutions! We hope you’ve had a successful and prosperous year in 2012 and we wish you the best in 2013.

Here it is nearly the end of December, a great time of year to take a look at your life and realize that anything is possible for you. You are the designer of your life, and that is a key message I want to convey to you.

Some people have a victim mentality, thinking “Why me?” I can think of one of my girlfriends, in particular, who is constantly complaining, believes that nothing she does will be a success, that she is not the designer of her own life, that she is in a rut where everything she does is wrong–both in her professional and her personal life. This is primarily a result of her mindset.

I challenge you to ask yourself: Are you setting yourself up for success, or are you in a rut of the self-fulfilling prophecy of failure? What do you tell yourself each and every day when you wake up in the morning?

If you are grateful, realize that things can change, work hard to change them and take baby steps to achieve them, you will start to see results. If instead you stay in a ‘victim-negative’ mentality, nothing is going to change for you in 2013. I want to bring this mindset topic to you, because it’s important going into the New Year to realize that you are the designer of your own life.

Here’s a homework assignment for you: Take out a sheet of paper and over the next couple of days, before the end of the year, do some serious and deep thinking. Write down in detail what you want your life to look like.

* If you had a perfect day in a perfect life, what would that look like?
* Where would you wake up?
* Where would you live?
* With whom would you have breakfast?
* What would you do during the day?
* What kind of work is your favorite kind of work?
* What really drives you?
* What is your passion?
* Thinking back to ten, fifteen, twenty or even thirty years ago in your life, was there something that you were so happy to go to work every day and do? (Maybe it’s not related to the early childhood field.)

The point is that you can get clear about what you want your life to look like. Now is the time. There is no reason to wait. You are the designer of your own life. Use this as an inspiration to begin designing it.

Life is short. What I don’t want to have happen for you is that you look back on your life and realize that you lived in a place you really weren’t happy living, surrounded by people who were negative that you didn’t want to be with, doing work that you didn’t love or maybe being married to somebody that it was time for you to release.

Use this as deep introspective time. I know this is a heavy topic, but this is the best time of year to do it. I hope you take this to heart and do this assignment and think: If there were no limits, how would you change your life? Winning the lottery may not be the answer for 99.999% of us, so be realistic, but also dream a little bit.

If there are things that you always wanted to do in your life and you still haven’t done them, now is the time to plant the seeds and start moving in that direction, to make those dreams grow. Happy New Year!
